At the Reproductive Medicine Institute (RMI), we are deeply committed to making fertility care accessible for everyone. Earlier this year, Dr. Amanda Schwartz joined U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Congressman Bill Foster to address challenges in reproductive healthcare and advocate for greater access to fertility services for families across the country. Senator Duckworth, a mother through IVF, has been a strong advocate for expanding fertility care options nationwide through legislation like the Right to IVF Act, which she and Congressman Foster brought forward to extend IVF access and establish protections for reproductive rights. While the act did not pass, it has sparked important conversations on this essential issue.
In Illinois, residents already benefit from one of the nation’s most progressive infertility insurance laws, which mandates coverage for IVF and other fertility treatments for those who qualify. However, similar levels of support are not guaranteed across the country, and even in Illinois there can be limitations to coverage or exceptions made to deny coverage on specific insurance plans. Senator Duckworth’s Right to IVF

Act aimed to change that by providing a consistent, national approach to support family-building, addressing both cost concerns and legal protections for middle-class families, veterans, federal employees, and others.
At RMI, we understand the challenges of the family-building journey, and our team is inspired by advocates like Dr. Schwartz and Senator Duckworth, who push for meaningful change. While this particular legislation didn’t pass, the conversation around it reminds us why we’re committed to helping all families realize their dreams of parenthood. From offering advanced treatments to working alongside policy makers, RMI is here to support our patients every step of the way. Dr. Schwartz stands committed in advocating for her patients’ autonomy and access to care sharing:
“Every day, I witness the uncertainty many of my patients feel about the future of fertility care, and I want them to know they’re not alone. Family-building is such a deeply personal journey, and every individual deserves access to compassionate, high-quality care when navigating infertility challenges. Together with the entire team at RMI, I am dedicated to empowering individuals and couples to build their families, no matter the obstacles they face. We’re here to support our patients at every step, advocating for their needs and providing the resources to help them achieve their dreams of parenthood.”
While the path to nationwide support may take time, our dedication to making fertility care accessible for all remains strong. If you’re ready to learn more about family-building options or the impact of Illinois’s insurance coverage, our team is here to help. Together, we can navigate your journey to parenthood.
